The short version
- Your screenshots never leave your iPhone. Screendex doesn’t upload, copy or share them.
- Your folders, notes, links, tags and stats are stored only on your device.
- There’s no account, no sign-in, no advertising and no analytics or tracking.
- If you buy Screendex Pro, Apple handles the payment and our subscription provider, RevenueCat, confirms your purchase using an anonymous ID.
This policy explains what information the Screendex iPhone app (“Screendex”, “the app”) uses and why. Screendex is made by Joe Shipton (“we”, “us”), the data controller for the limited information described below.
1. Your photo library
With your permission, Screendex reads your photo library to show you your screenshots. It only displays photos that iOS marks as screenshots.
- On device only. Images are displayed straight from your library. Screendex does not copy, upload or send them anywhere.
- What we store. To remember how you’ve organised a screenshot, Screendex saves its Photos identifier, dimensions and creation date in a database inside the app on your iPhone.
- Deleting photos. Screendex only deletes photos when you ask it to, and iOS always asks you to confirm. Deleted photos go to the Recently Deleted album in Photos.
- Limited access. If you give Screendex access to selected photos only, it can only see those. You can change this any time in Settings › Screendex › Photos.
2. Information you add
Folders, notes, links, tags and your Quick Sort and activity history (used for the Stats screen) are stored in the app’s database on your iPhone. We can’t see them. They’re included in your iPhone’s iCloud or computer backup if you use one, which Apple’s privacy policy covers.
You can export all of this data as a JSON file from Settings (a Pro feature). Deleting the app deletes this data from your device.
3. Purchases (Screendex Pro)
Screendex Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes your payment; we never receive your name, email address or payment details.
To check whether you have Pro and to restore purchases, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service that acts as our data processor. When the app starts or you make or restore a purchase, RevenueCat receives:
- a random, anonymous app user ID created by RevenueCat (not linked to your name or Apple ID),
- your App Store purchase receipt and transaction details,
- basic technical information such as app version, iOS version, device model, country/storefront and IP address (used for fraud prevention and to show local prices).
We use this only to provide and support your purchase, and to see aggregate sales figures (for example, how many people chose the annual plan). Your screenshots, notes, links, tags and folders are never sent to RevenueCat.
Our legal basis for this processing is performance of a contract (providing what you bought) and our legitimate interest in preventing fraud.
4. Websites you open
Links you attach to screenshots open in Apple’s in-app browser (Safari View Controller). Screendex can’t see what you do there. The websites you visit have their own privacy policies.
5. What we don’t do
- No analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
- No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites, so we never ask for tracking permission.
We do see anonymous, aggregate statistics that Apple shares with all developers (such as downloads and crash counts) if you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings.
6. How long we keep information
Data in the app stays on your device until you delete it or the app. RevenueCat keeps purchase records for as long as needed to provide your purchase and to meet legal and accounting obligations.
7. Your rights
If you’re in the UK or EU you have rights under data protection law, including access, correction, deletion and objection. Because almost everything stays on your device, you can view, export and delete it yourself in the app. For purchase data held by RevenueCat, contact us at the address below and we’ll help. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
8. Children
Screendex is a general-audience app and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
